Presentation is key to get my kids to eat right. Here’s a poem outlining how I make good nutrition fun:
Peas, carrots, olives are eyes. Other veggies hide in pot pies Macaroni and spaghetti become eyebrows and lips. Ranch dressing and honey - perfect for dips.Meals are now more exciting and the food on their plate looks so inviting.
- Krista from Colorado
A special project we take on each spring with our kids is planting different fruits and vegetables. We plant cherry tomatoes, grape tomatoes, radishes, peas, beans and squash in special garden beds we construct. The kids love to pick their own snacks and taste their work.
- JoAnn from Florida
In our home, we let our children decorate individual pizzas with a variety of vegetables. They can make designs, faces, or whatever they like with peppers, onions, mushrooms, olives, tomatoes and low-fat cheese. They love doing this and they create a nutritious meal.
- Jannie from Louisiana
I give my kids the vegetable of the night first, so they will eat it and then they take turns guessing what their next "dinner" will be. First one to guess shouts hooray!
- Jeri from California
I encourage my kids to buy a new food when we go grocery shopping. Whether they try new fruits like mangos or starfruit, or a new type of bread like marble rye or 12-grain, kids feel independent and grown up when they are allowed to pick.

- Soul –
- Strengthening character and reinforcing positive behavior with social recreation activities designed to improve confidence and develop interpersonal skills.
Body Moving
Video games give kids a good thumb workout but not the full body exercise they need. An active body stimulates an active mind. So, here are some ideas to get your kids up and moving, just like the characters in their video games.
Walking Missions
Give a simple walk with your kids some purpose. Create a time and destination. Plot out courses with crayons or markers and take your map with you along the way.
Active TV
Have your kids leap to their feet during a commercial break. See how many jumping jacks they can do before the show comes back on.
Set the Course for Fun
Turn your backyard into an action-packed adventure with a little imagination. Create an obstacle course and challenge your kids to make it through.
