Research Engineer

Before I became a part of Kraft I had no idea the amount of research and development that it takes to make food products. It's amazing!

I've learned so much about the business side of the food industry since joining Kraft. Everything we do is intended to move the business forward. There's not much point in developing a food product that nobody wants to eat! We work with Marketing, Quality Assurance, Marketing Information and many of the other areas of the company. Everyone at Kraft shares information and expertise to create and deliver the quality products that have made us first in our industry.

From the very beginning we're expected to be contributors to the company. The learning curve is steep, but at Kraft you're given all the support you need to succeed. When you're hired by Kraft, it means that the company believes in your talents and your potential. The opportunities and responsibilities you're given make you feel challenged and needed. I know that my management supports my ideas. They believe in me - and that counts for a lot.

Day to day work as a research engineer involves developing timelines, identifying resources, and planning experiments/plant trials, consumer tests, and communicating results to teams and managers. Knowledge of ingredients, formulations, processing, spoilage concerns, micro testing and challenge studies are all necessary for this role.

Kraft puts a great deal of emphasis on development and training. We're encouraged to gain experience on the job and through other sources like seminars, and mentor relationships. We're expected to share our experiences and talents with each other, so we all help one another grow. I had many great mentors when I joined the company, and now I'm able to share with others as a mentor as well as through more structured approaches.
