Associate Promotion Manager
I really love my job. It's incredibly fast-paced, and every day is different.
Our job in Consumer Promotions is to develop promotional strategies for all of our brands. Consumer Promotions is an integral part of each brand, providing support and creating promotional programs that meet the brand's goals. We need to understand our consumers, know our competition, and be on top of trends in the market. In addition, we rely on data from many sources to help us make the right decisions for promoting our brands.
I work very closely with people from brand management to provide them with the promotional strategies that will meet their long-term and short-term objectives for the brand. We have many sophisticated tools at our disposal for learning about and targeting consumer groups. That makes our jobs both challenging and fun.
There are all sorts of promotional methods we can use: for example, coupons inserted in newspapers, coupons given at check-out, instant coupon machines in the stores. We also do taste sampling, product give-aways, and many other types of promotions. There are so many possibilities. It's our job to find the right approach to meet each set of objectives for the brand.
People in Consumer Promotions have many different educational backgrounds and job experiences. You hit the ground running here, but you're never left without support. I think it's important for someone joining Consumer Promotions to have business savvy and good communication skills. You also need to be able to juggle many things at once and be able to handle both short- and long-term projects and planning.
And you need to be a team player. We work with other areas of the company to ensure that our strategies are in line with goals across the organization. We interact with people from Operations, Legal, the Kraft Kitchens, Logistics, and, of course, Marketing. It really is a team effort!
