Regional Controller, Sales
You hear stories of other companies where Finance is almost an adversary of Marketing and other functions. That's not the case at Kraft. We're here to provide critical support to the other departments - to provide the financial information and advice that will help grow our brands. At Kraft, the Finance function is expected to provide financial counsel to the other parts of the business. We're not just crunching numbers and running reports. Finance is an integral part of every business team, as advisor and partner.
My area of Finance supports Sales and Customer Service. We're responsible for budgeting and forecasting all sales and volume for Kraft Foods. We manage expense budgets, volume planning, and bonus targets for Sales. My primary role is to support the field. The area I support is on the West Coast, so I spend half of my time on the West Coast and the other half at headquarters in Northfield, Illinois. When I'm out in the field I go on customer calls, work on account plans, help with presentations for customers, offer advice, and provide whatever support is necessary.
The respect that Kraft has for its employees translates into more responsibilities right from the start. I have a lot more responsibility now than my peers do at other companies. Kraft trusts its people to apply their talents and get the job done. They also provide you with exposure to many areas of the business by moving you through a variety of jobs rather quickly.
Kraft provides a lot of tools to help you grow in your career. We have a program that helps you focus your goals, plan for the year ahead, and monitor your progress with your manager. Tied into that are specific development plans that you have identified. Those are an important part of the plan, too. Kraft wants to make sure that your assignments keep you challenged and that you are focused on preparing yourself for the future.
Working in Finance at Kraft is very satisfying. I feel that I am really adding value to our products and helping to grow the business. You're a part of the creation, manufacturing, and sales of Kraft products. That gives you a real sense of completion.
